Oxfordshire Needs the Lib Dems - Launch of County Manifesto

April 1, 2005 12:00 AM

Oxfordshire Liberal Democrats are launching their manifesto for the County elections, "Go for Pure Gold", on Friday 1st April.

The manifesto promises better, more efficient public services and, under Liberal Democrat plans to axe Council Tax, they would be paid for by a fairer tax. A Liberal Democrat County Council would do more for children and young people, for example by increasing funding for the youth service. It would tackle congestion and air pollution, enhance cycling facilities and give a higher priority to the repair of pavements and footpaths. The Council would help older people to stay active and independent and put pressure on the Government to adopt the Liberal Democrat policy of free personal care for older people. It would give more support to carers, both young and older. And, recognising the importance of the environment, the Liberal Democrats would ensure its protection against overdevelopment.

The launch will be held at Marmalade café, part of the Old Jam Factory, 27 Park End Street, on Friday 1st April at 12.30pm. Deputy Group Leader, Neil Fawcett, will present the manifesto and answer questions.
