Local County Councillor Zoé Patrick visited Millbrook Primary School in Grove as part of Oxfordshire County Council's 'Taking Your Councillor to School' day which was set up as part of Local Democracy week. Cllr. Patrick was able to see the school's busy schedule as well as taking part in a lively question and answer session with the pupils about her role as a local councillor in the community. After touring all the different classes, she ate school lunch with the children.
During the afternoon it was time to help with discussion in the first meeting of this year's School Council. It was decided that sharing practice with the County Council was a good idea. For example, allowing children to have a deputy if they were unable to attend meetings meant that it would give more opportunity for classes to participate. It was also agreed to have a chairman at the meetings, and the council would elect the chairman. Finally, children thought they liked the idea of voting on decisions taken at the meeting.
Zoé Patrick said, "I was extremely impressed by the enthusiasm of all the students and their willingness to learn and become involved. The pupils were very polite and welcoming and I thoroughly enjoyed spending the day with them."
