Green Belt & BMW - letter to Oxford Mail

Dear Sir
In response to the letter in the Oxford Mail 12th November, in which it was implied I was involved in getting land taken out of the green belt for BMW development, I have to put the record straight.
The decision to remove the BMW sports ground near Horspath from the Green Belt was taken by Oxford City Council. It followed the recommendations of the independent Inspector who held a public inquiry into the Oxford Local Plan.
I was never involved in discussions with BMW about their expansion plans and I am not aware of any other County Councillors having been engaged in them. I have consistently argued against Oxford City Council's proposal to amend the Green Belt boundary at BMW. When the County Council decided to withdraw its objection, I insisted that this was conditional on the Local Plan containing a highly restrictive policy to ensure that the site would be developed only in exceptional circumstances.
I have acted throughout in line with my strongly held support for the Green Belt.
