Speaking for the Liberal Democrats at County Cabinet on Tuesday 6th December, Cllr Anne Purse stated again that Liberal Democrats will oppose development in the Oxford Green Belt. She urged the Cabinet to listen, as they decide where to put the new housing in Oxfordshire demanded by the South East Region.
Anne said, "Of the options before Cabinet, the one we prefer places new housing in Bicester and Didcot. Liberal Democrats know this will require investment in these areas but at least they are both well-served by rail, allowing for sustainable travel."
As well as ruling out development in the Green Belt, Liberal Democrats do not think that Grove is a suitable location. Cllr Bob Johnston, the Transport spokesperson, said, "We have to build with sustainable travel in mind. This rules out Grove which has no station and no likelihood of getting one under present Government policies."
