Liberal Democrat County Councillors will not be joining the demonstration outside County Hall tomorrow, fearing that this might affect their ability to vote on the issue at a later stage, and also feeling that not all the information is as yet available.
Cllr Anne Purse, on behalf of the group, said: "Certainly we are opposed to old-style incineration, but we remain of an open mind on all other forms of treatment. Our policy is that the waste disposal option chosen by the County Council should be the most environmentally-friendly and sustainable option available, and we are definitely keen to maximise reduce, re-use, recycle. We have a motion at tomorrow's council calling on the government to reduce packaging used in the retail trade.
"We have not yet heard the feedback from the working group who are looking at the various options. We need to have the full facts, and the results of any further public consultation, rather than allying ourselves with any particular pressure group."
