Dear Sir
John Howell's letters are always amusingly colourful, but I must correct some of his blatant untruths. It is a matter of public record that the Lib Dem budget amendments were published for the scrutiny of Council and the public on 8th February.
The County Treasurer's commentary on our proposals was published on the same day. She said, "The Liberal Democrat proposals set out a series of amendments which if taken together would produce a balanced budget.... The removal or reduction of savings, especially that for Social and Community Services (£1m) will all reduce the risks faced by those areas. The position is sustainable given the increased ongoing levels of Council Tax." I am sure that if she had felt our budget would be "dangerous" or "reckless" she would have had no hesitation in saying so. Instead she talks several times of the Lib Dem proposals reducing the risks faced to the Council.
I am sure, Mr Editor, that your readers will by now be tired of hearing from Cllr Howell on this subject, and perhaps as tired as I am with correcting his wild assertions.
Cllr Zoe Patrick
