Liberal Democrat councillors on Oxfordshire County Council are calling on the Cabinet to ensure good co-ordination and planning with bus operators during highways maintenance works. During the summer, there have been some major delays in Oxford city, in particular around the Headington roundabout whilst key works have been going ahead. There are concerns that not enough is being done to mitigate the delays and the impact it has on bus passengers.
Cllr Zoe Patrick, Liberal Democrat Leader, says "We need to ensure good co-ordination and planning with the bus operators to ensure delays and disruptions are kept to the minimum. Serious problems being caused to bus passengers reduces public confidence and bus usage. We need to encourage public transport as much as we can."
She continues "I have received a number of complaints from members of the public who have either missed key appointments or who have been late for work as a result of these delays. I know highway maintenance is essential, but more needs to be done to plan for the consequences of this."
