Cllr Roz Smith asked full Council today to consider setting up a scrutiny review of the current regulations affecting parking in controlled zones.
Roz said, "A number of these rules are simply ridiculous and seem designed to confuse and frustrate people. For instance, rules regarding visitors' parking are particularly unhelpful. If your visitor arrives in the afternoon and stays overnight, you have to use a permit for the afternoon and then rush out in the morning and use another! One of my elderly residents does not drive, so does not qualify even for visitors' permits. How is her son going to visit her during the day?
"And tradesmen don't fare any better. One of my neighbours works from home and uses a van to transport the tools of his trade, but his vehicle falls foul of the current regulations in that the height of the vehicle is 2cm too high!"
Tory and Labour Councillors both rejected the suggestion of a review, however.
