County Liberal Democrats are supporting a policy to allow cafés and restaurants to put chairs and tables outside, where there is room for them, if they so wish. The County Council's Transport Decisions Committee is meeting this Thursday to discuss adopting this policy.
The Liberal Democrat Councillor who represents much of the City Centre, Alan Armitage, said, "In this lovely summer weather people obviously want to sit outside if they can, and I see no reason why not if it does not obstruct the pavement. Cafés and restaurants want to offer this choice to their customers, and it could obviously be good for their business."
