Liberal Democrat County & City Councillor Jean Fooks is asking the County's Cabinet member for Transport, Cllr Ian Hudspeth, about how it will be decided on what the money from the fines at the camera restriction points is spent. Jean will raise this at next week's County Council meeting.
She said, "I noticed in the Oxford Mail that Cllr Hudspeth says that all money raised in fines from cameras in central Oxford will be spent within the City boundaries on environmental projects - and I was much relieved to hear it. But I am now asking for reassurance that those councillors who represent city wards and divisions will be involved in deciding which projects to support. Many areas have been begging for new pedestrian crossings and better cycle provision or traffic calming, and this seems an ideal way to spend the money. Those of us elected to represent the residents of the City have the local knowledge that he could find useful - I hope he asks us for advice before rushing off to spend this 'windfall'!"
