Cllr Dermot Roaf paid tribute to former County Councillor, the late Ian Blair, at yesterday's County Council meeting.
Dermot said, "In 1981 more than half the Councillors elected were new - including Ian Blair, who won Abingdon Central which he held for twelve years. Liz Brighouse and I also joined the council then.
"That Council was rather exciting as the Conservatives had a majority of three (compared with 53 previously) and many full Council meetings took two days. It was a new experience for all of us.
"Ian served on the Education Committee and its Finance & General Purposes Subcommittee and on the Personnel Committee. After the 1985 election when the "rainbow administration" was formed, he was Spokesman (so occasionally Chair) of the Personnel Committee and also served on the Public Transport Subcommittee, the Performance Review Subcommittee and the Public Protection Committee. On all these bodies and at full Council he was a wise and valued colleague.
"After retiring from the Council he moved to Standlake where he took a very active part in the local Church. Many current and former Councillors attended his Funeral Service and he will be missed by many."
