The announcement from the Conservatives about the 10% reduction in staff numbers has caused great alarm amongst county council staff.
There have been calls for the reduction in the numbers of consultants and agency staff. We have asked for information on this but the council has so far not been able to give us accurate figures.
Given the concern amongst staff, the Liberal Democrats are calling for an emergency meeting of the Employees Joint Consultative Committee which comprises staff, Unison representatives, councillors and officers.
We recognise that times are very difficult, however we do need to all work together in trying to make the best of a very challenging situation.
Our staff are providing essential services to the public whether looking after children, older people or repairing the roads. We need to ensure that they are valued and consulted on any proposals that are affecting their employment.
