Lib Dems boost schools and libraries

3.46.42pm GMT Tue 15th Feb 2005

The Liberal Democrats will be backing the budget proposed by the County Council Executive because it delivers increased resources for local schools and boosts the County's Library Service.

Key priorities supported by the Lib Dems include:

1 Increasing the funding delegated to local schools in line with Government advice.

2 Continuing to increase funding so that a number of libraries will be open for longer hours, improving access to library facilities county wide.

3 Safeguarding the future of Cogges Manor Farm Museum, safeguarding this unique resource for the people of Oxfordshire.

4 Identifying capital resources that should enable the long awaited Thame library project to go ahead.

"Improving educational opportunities is a top priority for the Liberal Democrats and I am delighted that we will see another year of real investment in schools, libraries and museums across the County," said Cllr Neil Fawcett, Executive Member for Learning & Culture.
