Bob Johnston Slams Parking Proposals

5.24.13pm GMT Tue 6th Dec 2005

At the meeting of the County Cabinet today, Cllr Bob Johnston (Liberal Democrat Shadow Cabinet Transport spokesperson) accused the ruling Tory group of sending out mixed messages over parking and threatening to set town versus country over the issue.

"On the one hand they are telling rural motorists they can park for free in Oxford City in the evenings and at weekends, and on the other hand they are telling the citizens of Oxford you must now pay for your parking permits," said Bob.

The Liberal Democrats believe that if the ruling group must proceed to charge for residents' parking permits then they should be consulting them first on levels of charging and better enforcement and that they should be giving out all the financial facts and figures relating to the proposals. Finally, they should be asking the public what improvements they would like to see in residents' parking schemes.
