Heavy Lorries and Global Positioning Systems

2.41.12pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 19th Jun 2006

Liberal Democrat County Councillor Bob Johnston has put forward a motion to tomorrow's Council meeting which calls for action to stop heavy lorries abusing weight and other restrictions whilst following GPS travel directions.

Alerted to the subject by a number of his electors living in a quiet Radley lane, he was startled to discover that most GPS systems routinely flout all restrictions.

"The result is the loss of quiet enjoyment by many rural residents and extra damage to minor byways and highways," said Bob. "It is only by increasing public knowledge and concern that this menace will be tackled."
