Next Step in the Campaign for Hospital Bus

10.22.31am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 12th Jun 2007

Local Liberal Democrat Councillor Jean Fooks is asking the County Council at the full Council meeting next week to look if anything can be done to provide better bus services to the hospitals and Oxford Brookes University.

At present, people in the north of Oxford, and anyone coming into Oxford from the north, find difficulties because of the lack of bus services towards the Churchill, Nuffield and Warneford Hospitals or Brookes University from either North Oxford or Water Eaton Park and Ride. This leaves them having to make a long walk in the centre of Oxford to transfer from one bus to another, having to drive due to no bus service, or having to take a taxi at considerable expense in order to reach anywhere beyond the John Radcliffe.

Jean commented, "Several residents, including elderly people, have contacted me to say that they find the journey they are having to make now very difficult. I do hope that the council will agree to discussions with the bus companies, the hospitals and the university to see what can be done to extend the services."
