Fire engines were needed in North Drive to pump out water

Cllr. Zoé Patrick, County Councillor for Grove and Wantage warned the County Council's Cabinet today that the highway drainage schemes in Grove need high priority to be tackled urgently to alleviate future flooding.

Residents in North Drive, Grove had to call out the Fire & Rescue Service to come and pump out the houses at the end of the road after the heavy rainfall at the weekend overflowed the drainage and sewerage systems so that they couldn't cope. 2,500 litres of water a minute was being pumped out to stop residents' flooding and everyone was concerned that it would get worse.

Other areas in Grove which need to be addressed include Vale Avenue and Cane Lane. Cane Lane was flooded at the weekend, but luckily properties escaped this time.

Cllr. Zoe Patrick, County Councillor for Grove and Wantage said "We need action now on all these schemes to prevent residents becoming flooded in the future. Every time it rains now people are worried that they will have to evacuate. I am looking forward to the work being undertaken as soon as possible and I shall keep pressing for this to happen."
