Barton Subway

Local Lib Dem Councillors have raised residents' concerns about Barton subway by reporting faulty street lights to the County Council, several times over several weeks. Action now appears imminent after the story appeared in the Oxford Mail.

County Councillor Roz Smith said, "It is not good enough for the County Council to now say that they have sent out people out - they have known about this problem for weeks and done nothing so far. We reported the lighting problem weeks ago when only 7 of the 21 lights were working and were told it would be sorted quickly. More recently we reported the lighting problem twice in the last two weeks as soon as we saw that all the lights were out.

"we, and residents, have been reporting ongoing problems for years. Residents are rightly concerned. It is now pitch black down there and potentially very dangerous."

And City Councillor Patrick Murray said, "We are grateful to the Oxford Mail for highlighting these recent complaints from residents and hope that the repairs and cleaning will be acted on more promptly than has previously been the case."
